Weathering the Storm

Here in Stockton, we've been hunkered down the past few days waiting for Hurricane Isaac's arrival. Earlier in the week, it looked like he was headed directly for the Alabama coast but he moved westward and we've faired pretty well. Just some wind and rain and a few tree limbs down around the community. Our thoughts our with our Mississippi and Louisiana neighbors who are still getting the worst of it today.

It's been nice to relax some after all our storm preps and a very successful weekend at Fort Mims. Even with Isaac approaching, there was a great crowd and some of the best weather the event has ever seen (a cool breeze in late August, thanks, Isaac!). We spread the word about the Stockton Landmark District to spectators, vendors, and re-enactors from across the state and were overwhelmed by their support. Thanks to everyone for taking fliers and bumper stickers back to their hometowns! Word of mouth is one of the best tools we have. Here are a few pictures from the weekend we wanted to share:

Click here for some great photos of the battle re-enactment.

We will be at many other events around the Gulf Coast this fall. Stay tuned to the blog for updates. Remember, we are an all-volunteer organzation and would love for you to join us! Email us at stocktonlandmarkdistrict@gmail.com to volunteer of for more information.

Thanks for your continued support!!

Remember Fort Mims

Looking for something to do this weekend? Did you know that a defining moment in American history happened just a few miles up the road from Stockton at Fort Mims 199 years ago? Come to Tensaw this weekend for the annual Fort Mims Commemoration Weekend. There will be living history demonstrations, nature walks, food, music, and a daily re-enactment of the infamous massacre. SLD volunteers will be there all weekend spreading the word about Amendment 3 and answering any questions you might have about the Stockton Landmark District. Look for us under the pavilion and say hello!

North Baldwin County is full of history, come and remember Ft. Mims with us this weekend! Thanks so much for sharing this blog with your family and friends across the state. SLD truly is a grassroots campaign and we appreciate everyones' efforts to make Stockton, Alabama's 1st Landmark District.

Have a great weekend, ya'll!

76 Days to Go!

Welcome to the Stockton Landmark District blog! Fall is on its way and we are eager to get the word out about Amendment 3 and why everyone in the state should vote YES! This amendment only affects our little community of Stockton and has no impact on taxes or services or anyone else in Alabama. It simply states that Stockton cannot be annexed by another municipality without its citizens' vote. That's it! Stockton's residents deserve to have a say in their town's future.

Amendment 3 is being voted on statewide so spread the word to all you friends and family across Alabama. Please check our blog over the next few months as the election nears for updates on what's going on and how you can help. Also look out for some fun feature posts about Stockton's history and beautiful natural resources. Thanks for stopping by!
